TORCH RUN

The Sarasota County Sheriff's Office is proud to participate in the 2024 Law Enforcement Torch Run® (LETR) for Special Olympics which will pass through the streets of Sarasota County on Friday, April 19, 2024.

Sheriff's office members, along with local Special Olympics athletes, will run along U.S. 41 from Gulf Gate Pavilion beginning at 8:00 a.m. and head north until the torch is passed to the Sarasota Police Department in front of Paradise Plaza at Bay and Bee Ridge Roads. Traffic delays could occur on U.S. 41 between 8:00 a.m. and 9:00 a.m. Drivers may want to avoid the area or allow for extra time.

The mission of the Torch Run is to raise awareness and funds for the Special Olympics global movement. Working within the larger organization, Special Olympics Florida strives to give people with intellectual disabilities the opportunity to participate as respected and productive members of society and increase public awareness of their needs and capabilities.

Over 5,000 law enforcement officers carry the torch yearly on a 1,500-mile relay through 60 Florida counties. If you are interested in contributing to or volunteering with the Special Olympics, you can find out more on their website: www.SpecialOlympicsFlorida.org.
